At the top of Mazes, in the insidious beauty of the mountains of Montemuro, we find a village ... Anta de Mazes. This Village is characterized by a small cluster of stone houses, around 50 rustic houses with thatched roofs left to the elements. Just like the name, we imagine Anta to be a monument, of unparalleled beauty. And it's not far from the truth, because Anta is a group of small monuments that in the past were the stage for the history of our ancestors. All sewn with the lines and colors of time and the harsh years that the views of the mountains have endured here. "Joaquina da Anta", a legend of the region, was the last person, who stayed at Anta, for 20 years, when everyone left.
“It is a world without representations, which easily slips through our fingers, simultaneously fictional and all too real. Anta is not abandoned, it is uninhabited...” - Paulo Moura [www.publico.pt]
